About Verdun Adventure Bound

Philosophy
Learning from the environment, overcoming obstacles, and interacting with fellow human beings are at the core of the Adventure Bound philosophy. Verdun is committed to providing an outdoor educational experience that enhances the ability of participants to become balanced, ethical and responsible members of the world we share.

The Adventure Bound approach is centered on placing groups of participants outdoors in controlled-risk situations where they are physically and emotionally challenged. While in these situations, participants develop new skills, strengthen existing skills and discover how to interact in trusting, mutually supportive ways. Using the outdoors as a classroom, all exercises are focused on safety and contain educational components that help create a strong sense of environmental conservation and stewardship.

History
Verdun was founded in 1999 by Dr. David M. Snyder to develop and promote the Adventure Bound Philosophy - the natural philosophy of growth and development reflected in nature. He envisioned a facility set in the beautiful Virginia Piedmont, offering many varied programs to move individuals toward personal growth and stewardship of the land. His primary focus was to meet the needs of children and young adults living in the communities of Culpepper, Fauquier and Rappahannock counties.

The organization has touched the lives of many children with the help of many dedicated volunteers and community contributors.
